Erica moved to Birmingham to be closer to my family. And I’ve been surprised to discover that it’s actually really great for fashion despite the looks of shock horror I was presented with when I told my fashiony friends about the move.
“What kind of career and life will you have there Erica?”Not that most of these industry insiders would ever tell you otherwise though - most of them never leave their own cliquey party circles. Or indeed the M25.
I always thought my move to the Midlands would kill off any peanut-paying fashion career I’ve carefully crafted over time (and trust me you can be running your own fashion magazine and not get paid a single penny). Anyway I’ve actually been blessed with the grand old title of Fashion Editor for a great new pocket guide to Birmingham called, AREA.
Kate Lawler of edgy local radio station Kerrang! told me: “When I moved to Birmingham from London I was sad to leave the fashion capital of the world. But Birmingham has proved to be a really stylish place to live with some of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten in as well as beautiful shops, both luxury and vintage.”
