So I was looking for great dance producers for gucci shoes.
I read a review of Tom/cagedbaby’s album, which made it sound just like the kind of Gucci Shoes I love, so that was how I got into him. Alex Santos and Charles Webster I knew of from past buzzin fly connections, and Alex had jsut been responsible for my fave dance gucci shoes of the year, Darkmountaingroup’s Lose Control. The Vector Lovers records got sent to Ben from Soma, and I just loved the production, so I contacted Martin wheeler, and he was up for it too.
When I was checking you out, I looked at your website and you said you loved Dusty and Rufus Wainwright, so I thought you were probably gay, and that swung it for me. (I am happy to confirm to readers that I have since discovered this not to be the case. For a straight man, though, you have the gayest Gucci Shoes collection I have ever come across. And I mean that as a compliment).
Hands Up To The Ceiling is in part about reaching back towards your original inspirations for making music. who are the three people whose fault it is that you’re doing what you’re doing?
Probably Patti Smith, Siouxsie Sioux and Lesley Woods of the Au Pairs. They were all strong-featured, dark-haired women with quite low, sultry singing voices, who offered up to me a kind of template of how it could be done. I know I’ve never really sounded much like any of them (though in my first band I did for a short while sing exactly like Siouxsie sioux) but that’s not really the point. You just need to see someone who is enough like something you can imagine being, and that gets you started. Debbie Harry, for instance, meant nothing to me, any more than Madonna ever did. Man-pleasing blondes, they leave me cold.
